Dentures: How to Replace Them with Implants
If it is a case of completely edentulous jaws, in addition to classic complete dentures that are fully removable and often not very comfortable for the patient, teeth can also be replaced by placing dental implants on which teeth are then placed, and such teeth are significantly more stable and stronger. There are several ways in which this can be performed when dealing with a completely edentulous jaw:
Dental denture on locators or a bar
A dental denture on locators is a prosthetic solution for an edentulous jaw, where a skeletal dental denture is firmly held on previously placed implants using locators or ball attachments. It is necessary to place 2-4 implants. In the lower jaw, two implants are most commonly placed, while in the upper jaw 4 implants are used. The difference between a dental denture on locators and a classic complete denture is that the dental denture on locators is a semi-fixed construction, which means it is more stable in the mouth and significantly more comfortable for the patient.
Further advantages are:
– easier and faster adaptation to the dental denture because it is significantly reduced, i.e. smaller
– greater stability, it is firmly held against the jaw
– easy maintenance of oral hygiene
– very attractive appearance and enables safe movements and speech
– possibility of denture repair and adaptation because it is easy to remove and place in the mouth.
All-on-4 and All-on-6 fixed bridge on implants
With the All-on-4 system, 4 implants are placed in an edentulous jaw, while the All-on-6 system uses 6 implants. Within 1 day, the patient receives a temporary fixed screw-retained bridge, which is attached to the placed implants. After 4-6 months from implant placement, a precise permanent screw-retained bridge is made. This method is becoming an increasingly common choice among patients because it is a short-term procedure, the patient has a new smile in 1 day, the cost is significantly lower than classic implant therapy with fixed bridges, and the final result is a beautiful and completely natural appearance of the teeth. At the Dental Estetic Studio dental clinic, we have been providing these systems for 8 years.
Advantages compared to classic dental dentures are:
– it is a fixed prosthetic bridge, a screw-retained restoration that is not removed from the mouth
– prevention of further bone deterioration and excellent compensation for bone deficiency
– faster adaptation and comfortable wearing
– better taste of food because it does not cover the entire palate as is the case with classic dentures
– excellent aesthetic appearance, allowing all movements and speech as with natural teeth
– it can be serviced if necessary and removed in the dental clinic
