Abutments are external superstructures that are attached to implants with screws and support the dental crown. Their shape and size imitate a prepared natural tooth, so a crown (zirconia or Emax) is made on them, or when there are several implants, they support a bridge, most beautifully made in zirconia porcelain.

After implant placement, we usually wait for a period of 3-4 months for the implant to integrate with the bone (osseointegration), after which the abutment and crown are fabricated.

At Dental Estetic Studio, we place MIS or Nobel implants, which are among the highest-quality implant systems available on the market today, and they are placed by a surgeon with many years of experience. The abutments we place on implants are original products from these manufacturers (MIS, Nobel) and precisely match the dimensions of the inserted implants.

TYPES OF IMPLANT ABUTMENTS

Abutments can be divided according to several criteria:

1. dimensions (corresponding to the dimensions of the inserted implant)
2. the material from which they are made (metal – indicated for the posterior region of the oral cavity due to exceptional strength and stability; zirconia in tooth color – highly aesthetic, used in the anterior region to prevent the dark metal edge of the abutment from showing through and to achieve the best possible aesthetics of the future implant crown, which is extremely important to us at Dental Estetic Studio.
3. angulation (straight or angled – depending on the position of the implant)
4. the method of fabrication (prefabricated – ready-made factory-produced abutments that can later be adapted by the dental technician through milling – changing the direction or height, or individual – fabricated in the dental laboratory precisely according to the patient’s individual situation)

THE PROCEDURE FOR CREATING A NEW TOOTH FROM IMPLANT TO CROWN

1. implant placement
2. waiting for the osseointegration period (implant healing and integration with the bone) – usually 3-4 months; during this period, at Dental Estetic Studio we always provide patients with a beautiful temporary tooth/teeth
3. uncovering the implant and placing a gingiva former – a small screw around which the gum tissue is shaped over approximately 2 weeks, in order to achieve a natural appearance of the final restoration and excellent adaptation around the gum
4. impression with a transfer – a special impression that transfers the direction of the implant in the bone to the technician and determines the direction of the future abutment
5. trial fitting of the abutment and permanent tightening into the implant, followed by sealing the screw opening
6. impression over the abutment for the permanent crown or multiple crowns
7. trial fitting of the prosthetic work, where we carefully agree on the color, shape and final aesthetics
8. cementation of the finished restoration onto the abutments
9. check-up.

In modern implantology, instead of abutments, we sometimes make screw-retained bridges, but in that case there is a screw access hole that later needs to be covered with composite material so that it is not visible.
