DENTAL CROWNS are prosthetic restorations that cover the entire tooth when necessary. DENTAL BRIDGES replace missing teeth by using the adjacent teeth as support, which are slightly reshaped to carry the missing tooth, or they connect teeth together into a bridge when required. Today, teeth no longer need to be extensively prepared for these restorations, but they do need to be slightly reduced on all sides.
Today, at our dental practice, we exclusively create metal-free crowns and bridges, mostly made from zirconia ceramic. This consists of a zirconia base produced using computer-aided technology, onto which layers of porcelain are applied to achieve maximum aesthetics, natural appearance, and translucency that closely resembles a natural tooth.
We now use Emax crowns less frequently, but for certain crowns on vital teeth, we create fully layered porcelain restorations identical to those used for porcelain veneers. All crowns and bridges are always perfectly integrated with the natural teeth. When combined with porcelain veneers, we design the restoration so that there is no visible difference between them, which is a hallmark of Dental Estetic Studio – achieving maximum aesthetics in every treatment.
At our practice, we generally do not create crowns and bridges made entirely from zirconia, because neither we nor our patients are satisfied with their aesthetics, especially regarding their natural appearance and the inability to modify such restorations after the try-in stage if necessary.
When choosing crowns or bridges, patients should always ask whether the planned restoration is made from full-contour zirconia or zirconia ceramic, as there is a significant difference in both price and, most importantly, in the natural appearance and aesthetics of the final result.
