Unfortunately, receding gums (gingival recession), which essentially means the loss of supporting bone and the presence of deep periodontal pockets, are a common problem among patients. This is often one of the reasons why teeth eventually need to be extracted.

Therefore, patients should not ignore these problems when they notice them on teeth that are still relatively healthy. They do not have to rely only on treatments that stop the progression of periodontal disease. Through the surgical procedures we perform, these areas can often be significantly improved, and the gum tissue can be restored closer to its original level.

Periodontal treatments such as deep professional cleaning, removal of inflamed tissue through curettage, instructions on proper home hygiene and care, and elimination of the causes that led to the condition are absolutely necessary. However, these treatments cannot restore lost gum tissue or regenerate lost bone — they only stop further progression of the disease.

Only with periodontal surgery and highly precise procedures can we restore these areas. The results of gum regeneration after such procedures are not always dramatic, but they are in every case very significant for the long-term preservation of these teeth.

Before and after connective tissue graft surgery from the palate to the lower front tooth, where the gum was severely receded and the tooth root was exposed. The lines show the successful restoration of the gum tissue to a normal level.

For receding gums, we most commonly perform a CONNECTIVE TISSUE GRAFT PROCEDURE FROM THE PALATE. Less frequently, we perform procedures for replacing lost gum tissue using SPECIAL MEMBRANES COMBINED WITH THE A-PRF SYSTEM FROM THE PATIENT’S OWN BLOOD PLASMA, which are used when larger areas require treatment.

Closing periodontal pockets is performed through a SURGICAL PROCEDURE WHERE THE POCKET IS FILLED WITH ARTIFICIAL BONE IN COMBINATION WITH SPECIFIC ADVANCED REGENERATIVE MATERIALS.

CONNECTIVE TISSUE GRAFT PROCEDURE FROM THE PALATE

How is it performed?

Our periodontal specialist takes a very thin layer of connective tissue from the patient’s palate and transfers it to the area where the gum has receded.

The suturing process is a very important part of the procedure. It requires time, precision, and techniques similar to those used in advanced aesthetic microsurgery, with fine sutures and careful tissue management.

During the procedure itself, there is no pain. After the procedure, the palate area may feel slightly irritated and there may be mild discomfort, which is usually easily controlled with a single pain-relief tablet.

Healing occurs within approximately one week to ten days. The final result becomes visible about one month after the procedure.

Who are these procedures recommended for?

These procedures are especially effective and recommended for teeth that are otherwise healthy and aesthetically pleasing, but where there are localized areas of gum recession affecting individual teeth or smaller regions.

They can also be performed on patients who are disciplined and maintain, or will achieve after our instructions, excellent oral hygiene.

Characteristics of the treatment:

This type of procedure requires exceptional expertise and precision, which our periodontist possesses and also teaches to other dental professionals.

The results are measured in millimeters, and this treatment is not intended for patients who have generalized gum recession affecting the entire jaw.

Although the procedure is relatively costly, it is the only method capable of restoring lost gum tissue. For patients with recession affecting individual teeth or smaller segments, it is an excellent and often necessary solution for improving both function and aesthetics.
