Endodontics – treatment of dental pulp diseases
Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of diseases of the dental nerve.

Every tooth in its structure, besides the hard tissues of the tooth such as enamel and dentin, also contains soft tissue – the dental nerve or dental pulp.
The presence of the dental nerve/dental pulp inside the tooth is a sign of the tooth’s “vitality”, and when its health is compromised, it is necessary to treat the situation with an endodontic procedure.
The health of the dental nerve can be compromised in different ways, and the most common cause is, of course, dental caries (the influence of bacteria and their toxins that dissolve enamel and dentin and penetrate into the deeper parts of the tooth).
At our Dental Estetic Studio dental clinic, great attention is paid to maintaining the health of the dental nerve in various ways:
- regular check-ups
- the use of biocompatible materials during dental restorations
- the use of calcium-based liners and protective materials for the nerve that neutralize bacteria and soothe an irritated nerve.
Of course, in some situations, when caries has progressed significantly, the nerve cannot be saved, and then a procedure called “nerve removal” or an endodontic treatment is performed, meaning cleaning, widening and filling the root canals so that the tooth can remain in the mouth without symptoms.
When caries reaches the nerve, bacteria penetrate and infect the inside of the tooth. If this is not treated in time, the infection can spread to the bone and cause inflammation of the tissues around the tooth, which then manifests as swelling, often accompanied by pain, redness, swelling and similar symptoms.
That is why it is important to remove caries (bacteria and their toxins) in time as soon as it is detected during an examination, in order to prevent the development of these complications.

The procedure for removing the dental pulp/nerve affected by caries at Dental Estetic Studio dental clinic is as follows:
- through a clinical examination, X-ray imaging, and during the procedure and removal of caries, we determine that the dental nerve is affected
- we open the area of the dental nerve so that we can fully access and remove it
- we remove the nerve using dental instruments with extensive irrigation
- we enter the root canals, which are also cleaned of nerve tissue using files and disinfecting fluids
- it is very important to reach the root tip with the instruments and optimally enlarge the canals to ensure that there are no remaining nerve tissue or bacteria inside the tooth
- we fill the canals with special materials (a semi-hard filling material and paste)
- we create a high-quality composite filling that provides a good seal and prevents contamination of the filled canals.
Sometimes, if a large amount of tooth structure is missing, at Dental Estetic Studio we decide to create a composite aesthetic build-up that strengthens the tooth, is anchored in the root, and a metal-free crown is placed to protect the treated tooth from possible fracture.
